Thriller Mood Board
Gothika is a horror, thriller and a psychological thriller and it is about a depressed psychiatrist who wakes up as a patient in the asylum where she worked and she has no memory on why she's is there or what she has done that has gotten her into this asylum. Dr. Miranda Grey is an excellent criminal psychiatrist but due to an auto accident she wakes up only to find out that she has been convicted for the murder of her husband Doug. however this is a false accusation to her as she says that she saw a girl in all white who was standing in front of her car and she doesn't remember killing her husband.
Shots
In this image we can see that there is a wide shot of the young girl Dr Miranda Grey had run over, this shot shows the audience how the young girl suddenly appeared in front of Mirandas car (0:34) as she was driving , it creates a sense of horror because when she miranda gets out of the car to see if the girl is okay the girl then goes ahead and grabs miranda and somehow ends up in the asylum. there are camera movements that happen here and then which is often to find where each character is and to pick out all the suspenseful action that happen.
Editing
There are a variety of edits in this trailer for example from (0:12) there are cut scenes which change to go into the next scene but they use a flash edit ti cut each scene and this creates a suspenseful atmosphere for the audience which will get them to want to know whats going happen next. (0:35) in this section of the trailer miranda gets into her car crash and while she is crashing theres a lot of lights flashing on the screen, this creates good horror atmosphere because all you cans is miranda spinning inter car and falling down while she crashes. the pace of the movie becomes quite rapid as around different thrills and as the thrilling sounds playtime actions and movement also go with the speed of the sounds.
Mis - en - scene
In the beginning of the trailer (0:01) it looks like Dr. Miranda is in the asylum talking to a patient called Chloe who has already been put there and the she says "how can you trust someone if they think you're crazy" this specific line could mean something later on in the movie because when miranda gets put in the asylum she says the exact same thing because no one believes that she didn't kill her husband. the era that this movie sin looks like she could be in 2003 or 2006 as there isn't a lot of high tech devices thatch uses and the car miranda was driving look pretty old. the props used look very realistic as the walkie talkies used look very real. the location is in a sort of an asylum made for people who may have mental health problems which make them look crazy to others.
Sounds
There are suspenseful sounds used in this trailer because it creates a good atmosphere where it will get the viewers wondering on what will happen next, it is sometimes a bit exaggerated but this good as it builds up suspense and keeps us on our feet.
Don't Breathe
Don't breathe is an American 2016 horror - thriller film which is produced and directed by Fede Alvarez, this movie is about a trio of thieves hoping to raid their last hit break into a blind mans home as he is retired soldier. They break in hoping they can get a certain amount of cash given to him as a settlement for his daughters death. while they break into the house they all think they will get out easily but little did they know that the minute they had entered they are trapped. Rocky is a young women whos wanting to start a better life for her and her sister so they both agree to take part in this robbery and their friend alex decides to join in too, however when the blind man turns out to be a more ruthless adversary than he seems the group then needs to find out a way to escape his home before they become his victims.

Editing
In this trailer there are a lot of slow fade cuts in between scenes which makes the audience want to carry on watching as it includes very suspenseful music for the atmosphere to feel like something will happen. At (1:06) when one of the characters tries to shoot the blind man there is a lot of cut scenes that move very quick in order to create suspense on what will happen next because even though the man is blind he trying to tackle a man who has a gun which is aimed at him. there is some parallel editing from, (1:20) where the scene is going back and fourth between the blind man holding the gun to shoot and the two people left over who are standing in silece so the man doesn't use his senses to shoot them.
Mis - En - Scene
the lighting in the clip is very dull as the blind mans house is very dark when he covers all the windows so they don't escape and this makes it harder for the two people left to find their way out as if they bump into the man they will get killed too. The location of the film is his house which doesn't really give any positive atmosphere, the blind man has many secretive rooms where he keeps all the bodies he as killed and once alex and rocky discover the room they a in shock with what they see. It looks like that they could be in the years between 2015 - 2017 as there are modern day cars and the house looks very modern. the props used look very realistic as the dead people who have been killed in the same house as they are in are in his cellar/attic and they have just been laid out with fake blood all over them to imitate that they have also been killed by the blind man.
Sounds
There are diegetic sounds included as alex and rocky are having continuous conversations and are whispering in fear of getting heard by the blind man (1: 46) there are small thuds between the part of alex and rocky trying to escape and this builds up tension to the audience as they will be wanting to know who the blind man is going to take next. (2:20) there is a lot of screeching and loud noises and this creates horror as the blind man has caught alex by his neck and tries to kill him too which leaves rocky on her own , at this shot you can also hear her heavy breathing as she doesn't know where she is or if the man has caught up to her, the both of them start wheezing as they find it difficult to breathe as all windows and doors are shut.
